Here's a secret that most people will find wierd in today's culture. My wife and I do not text. Now this may not always stay this way but we found that the computer and phone calls in general were creating issues. Spending to much time on a device of any kind became an addictive behavior and had to be changed so we starting limiting our selves on these items. I never really started using texts for communications but the computer was an issue with games I would play and some chatting and email features. Now of course we do both blog but this is more for reaching those that we have not been able to get ahold of or otherwise do not talk to on a reagular basis.
I don't have a huge problem with the over use of these items, but I do have a problem. When you would rather text me then talk to me when I'm in the same room that irritates me. When we have a state law in force (loosely enforced) to not text or not use a hands-free-device and the majority of the population goes about their usual routines, that irritates me. It just tells me that we forgot how to truely communicate. We forgot what quality time is and what it means to spend time with someone at home, at church, at work, heck even camping I sometimes have to ask people to put their phones away. These actions break my heart.
Am I guilty of these same actions, Yes I am. That is why I'm writting about it. I'm trying to change my ways and I know I have come a long way, but now I'm to a point where the behaviors of others are dragging me back to my past ways. My problem is the confidence to speak up on certain actions and that is why I am using this blogging thing for my voicing platform.
I'm very interested: if you think you have issues with the control of technology items please let me know so we can discuss. I'm very intereste in what others have done or what issues have been around.
